Who are we?

Galician Roots is a travel agency exclusively focused on Galicia, we’re proud to say we know our country and we’re glad to share our culture and landscapes with you. We offer various trips to let you know and discover Galicia. Every single journey has been done and tested by us so that we provide you the best services and quality. We deal personally with all our hotels and providers, checking all the details in order to make your stay a unique experience. Being a small travel agency allows us to take care and pay a personal attention to all your needs, we know how important and awaited your vacation is that’s why we want it to become a wonderful experience.

How to buy a Camino de Santiago travel package?

In the displaying menu of the Camino de Santiago section you will find the travel packages of the Camino, where the all-inclusive programmes will show up.

These packages will allow you to enjoy a carefree trip of the Camino as it includes all the amenities and extras. Once you have selected your trip you will have to choose the dates that suit you. After adding your package to the shopping cart we will ask you to create a new customer account, if you already haven’t, so that you can process your booking and pay a first deposit.

Our travel packages can be paid in two easy fees, the first one of 25% of the total amount and the second fee with the remaining 75% of the total has to be paid until one month before the travel date. You can use different methods to clear your payment, please look up the question referring to payment methods in the same section. Afterwards clearing the first fee a booking confirmation will be sent to your e-mail. Our server will send you automatically a reminder message to your e-mail the previous week the second fee payment should be paid, keep in mind that in case of non-payment the reservation would be cancelled.

If your reservation is done less than one month prior to your travel date the total amount will be charged at the moment.

How do I know where are located the accommodations of my trip?

The accommodations we work with are usually located very close to the Camino, some are only a few steps away from the path and others only a few minutes away on foot. In the case of the RURAL tour a great part of the accommodations we work with are located in rural areas that are more remote from the Camino, in those cases where the accommodations should be found more than 3 kilometres away we include a round trip transfer to facilitate access to our customers. These transfers are included in the tour price and are specified in the travel journal sent to the customer once the full payment of the trip is cleared.
 
In the case that some of the accommodations booked were located away from the town or the Camino we always include a round trip transfer from the Camino to your accommodation and the same transfer back to the Camino on the next morning at no extra cost.
 
Once the last payment is cleared we’ll send you an email with your travel journal (pdf format) where you’ll find all the detailed information about the accommodations and their locations. Our company policy doesn’t allow us to provide the names of the accommodations until the full payment of the holiday is completed.

What information is included in the travel journal and when should I receive it?

Once the payment of the total amount of your booking is cleared you’ll receive a confirmation of your reservation and a travel journal in pdf format will be sent to you at the e-mail address provided when you made the reservation. The travel journal includes a description of the route and maps with the location of the accommodations of your tour. All the services and transfers included are detailed in this travel journal.
 

Do you organise custom trips to Galicia?

Yes, we are pleased to arrange customised trips for groups to discover and visit Galicia. Please contact us by e-mail or phone and we’ll plan a journey based upon your preferences or budget.
 

What payment methods are accepted on this website?

For payment done within the European Union we can accept 3 different payment methods: payments with credit and debit cards, PayPal and bank transfer.
- The credit and debit cards accepted are Visa and MasterCard, in order to pay with these cards you’ll need a security code provided by your bank, this type of authentication codes ensure a reliable and fast transaction. This payment method has a fee of 1% applied on the total amount.
 
- You’ll also be able to complete your payment from the European Union using your PayPal account safely, a fee of 3,8% + 0,35€ will be applied to your payment. Payment providers apply these fees in order to use their services.
 
- You can also pay using bank transfer if you live in the European Union, this payment method has no extra fees. Considering that this payment method is a bit slower we’ll leave a margin of 5 working days to receive your payment and confirm your booking. In the event we did not receive your payment we’ll inform you and your booking will be cancelled.
- For payments made from international countries (outside the European Union) we can only accept payments through credit and debit cards or PayPal. The fee applied on payments with Visa and MasterCard cards is 3,1% on the total amount. If you prefer to use PayPal the fee applied will depend on your country of residence from where you make the payment, don’t hesitate to contact us and we’ll give you all the necessary information to complete your booking.

What is your cancellation policy?

You can cancel your holiday by contacting our customer care service by email or phone, it’s absolutely necessary that you send us your written request by email so that we have a written copy of you cancellation request.
 
You can cancel your holiday for any reason at least 30 days before your travel date. You only have to notify us by e-mail and we’ll proceed to refund the payment made previously. Keep in mind that the fees of PayPal, card payments and bank transfers won’t be refunded and must be paid by the customer if there are any when returning back the payment.

Is it possible to change the traveller’s name?

Changing the name of the traveller is completely free until one week before the beginning of your journey. In order to do this you must contact our customer care service by e-mail. We will forward you all the information needed such as the new passenger’s name, his passport number or ID card number, address, phone number, e-mail so as to send you a new booking confirmation.
 

Is the VAT included in all the prices displayed on your website?

All the prices shown on this website include the current VAT applied to travel agencies in Spain.
 

How to get the invoice of your trip?

If you the need the receipt of your holiday don’t hesitate to contact us by e-mail providing all your data and personal information and we’ll send you the corresponding invoice.
Our company is subject to the special VAT scheme of the travel agencies sector this is the reason why it doesn’t appear itemised.

Is it possible to hire a travel insurance?

We work with the insurance company InterMundial offering a wide range of travel and cancellation insurance policies to cover any unexpected events that might arise during your holiday. Don’t hesitate to contact us and we’ll send you detailed information about our insurance policies and their pricing. Our insurance policies are valid in Spain only, if you are travelling from another country please consider contracting the insurance in your country of residence.
 

Did you forget your password?

In case that you don’t remember your password you can retrieve it back by clicking on the “I forgot my password” button in the user authentication tab in the menu. An e-mail remembering your password will be sent to you to the provided address.
 

How to change your personal information and password?

You’ll be able to change and update your personal information and password by signing up into your account on our website, in the “My account” section you’ll find a short menu with all the required data.  Once you have selected the data that you wish to modify fill in the required field and save your changes.
 

How does Galician Roots use your personal information?

In accordance with the Organic Law 15/1999, dated 13 December, on the Protection of Personal Data, Galician Roots informs you that is owner and responsible for a number of files registered at the Spanish Data Protection Agency. All the security measures required by law to protect the integrity and confidentiality of the personal data provided by our clients have been implemented. Is it difficult to walk the Camino de Santiago?

The Camino de Santiago trail is made up of small ascents and slopes, some parts are harder than others but many people walk it every year with no difficulty. The stages are usually between 23-30 kms long but you will find some shorter stages in the middle of your journey that will make it easier than you think. Making the correct breaks and drinking enough water is a good tip to arrive comfortably.
 
We also give you the opportunity to customise your trip and split the longest stages so that your holiday is more pleasant. Don’t hesitate to contact us and we’ll work on a tailor-made trip for you with the personalised amount of kilometres you wish to walk each day.
 

Which equipment should I take to walk the Camino de Santiago?

We recommend you to take good walking shoes, it’s the most important thing when starting the Camino de Santiago as you will be walking everyday. We suggest you to take light boots or shoes that are comfortable, in the summer you can also use walking sandals but keep in mind that Galicia’s weather is really unpredictable so you may have to bring some extra footwear. Bring light and comfortable clothes, in winter should you take warm garments and don’t forget a raincoat.
 

Is it necessary to do some physical preparation to walk the Camino de Santiago?

Not necessary but yet very advisable. If you’re no used to walk we suggest you to train a bit before you start your journey, go out for a walk the weeks before you come so it will be easier for you to walk the stages.
 

How does the luggage transfer work?

The luggage transfer will allow you to follow the Camino de Santiago with no worries as you won’t have to carry on any bag during the stages. You will find your luggage in your room every time you arrive to your accommodation. Your bag will be collected every morning and transferred to the next hotel. The luggage is usually collected between 08.30 a.m. and 09.30 a.m., to ensure a correct service you must leave your suitcase at the reception of the accommodation during this time slot.
 

Do you provide vegetarian or vegan menus?

If you’re vegan or vegetarian don’t worry, at Galician Roots we also think about that. If you have a booked your trip with the half board option, all inclusive or only breakfasts don’t hesitate to let us know in advance and we’ll inform the accommodations and restaurants so that they can prepare a menu according to your needs.
 

Do you offer airport transfer services?

We have a transfer service available for individuals and groups to take you from any airport in Galicia to the starting point of your holiday. The airport of Santiago is the closest airport if you wish to start your route from Sarria or O Cebreiro however if you start your trip from any other point we can transfer you from any airport or any arrival point, don’t hesitate to contact us and we’ll take care of everything.
