From this year 2021 coinciding with the Holy Year the Cathedral of Santiago and the Xunta de Galicia will put in place the digital pilgrim passport. This new mobile application will be available for iOS and Android platforms and it will be accessible in eight languages. Downloading on your mobile phone the app you will get your stamps through the QR codes that can be downloaded from the different points of the Camino de Santiago.

As with the traditional pilgrim passport you must obtain two stamps per day to get accredited for the pilgrimage of Santiago de Compostela. The application will work on any route that you wish to complete.

The application comes with a website where the accommodations can sign in and scan their own image and create their stamp. The digital stamp can be created at the following link:

Scanning with your mobile phone the QR codes the stamp will be registered on your digital pilgrim passport, this way the process bears a complete resemblance to the use of the traditional pilgrim passport of paper.

The digital credential or digital pilgrim Passport comes with other digital transformations that are currently being made by the Pilgrim Office in Santiago de Compostela. The queue managing system to apply for the Compostela certificate stands out, it avoids pilgrim crowds and long waiting time. You must fill in your personal details when starting the Camino de Santiago, this way your Compostela will be ready when you reach Santiago. This system also allows you to request an appointment at the Pilgrim Office.

It should be mentioned that the traditional paper Pilgrim Passport won’t disappear with the appearance of the new digital Pilgrim Passport. All those pilgrims who prefer can use the traditional credential and get the stamps as it has been done until now. The Pilgrim Office emphasises that there will be no distinction between the digital and paper Pilgrim Passport, remaining valid both options.
