El Camino del Norte

Una ruta por el litoral cantábrico y el interior de Galicia

The Northern Camino also known as the Camino of the Northern Coast of Spain is the third most popular route of the Camino de Santiago nowadays still the number of pilgrims who choose this option is significantly lower. The Northern Way runs by the Bay of Biscay from the Basque Country passing by Asturias until Galicia. It’s one of the Caminos with the oldest historical background and famous pilgrims such as Saint Francis of Assisi have walked this path.

The UNESCO declared it as a World Heritage Site in the year 2005 and it’s a great alternative if you have already done the French Way previously. The Northern Way provides the opportunity to discover wonderful cities such as San Sebastián, Bilbao, Santander and Gijón. Despite its urban character some points of the route switch between sea and mountain stretches.

Its green and wooded landscapes and the enchanting fishermen villages are its marks of identity. This path abandons the coastline and goes deep into the inland of Galicia through Ribadeo. Starting from Ribadeo the Northern Way has approximately 198 kilometres until Santiago passing by the Biosphere Reserve of the River Eo and the Terras do Miño.

So if you wish to enjoy a path with fewer pilgrims let yourself be seduced by our tours of the Northern Way. If you prefer to customise your trip or if you wish to start from another point the route don’t hesitate to contact us and we’ll put all our efforts into making your Northern Way of the Camino de Santiago unique.
