Where does the French Way of Saint James start?

The Camino de Santiago Frances departs from the French town of Saint Jean Pied de Port in France and ends in Santiago de Compostela. The French Way has a total length of 795 kilometres. It is possible to start the French Way tour from any point of the route but you can find many options we offer on this page so you can choose the tour that best suits you both in difficulty and the number of kilometres.

What are the last 100 kilometres of the Camino de Santiago?

As discussed above the last 100 kilometres of the Camino de Santiago is the most popular route and the most walked by pilgrims, this stretch belonging to the French Way of Saint James starts in Sarria and has an approximate length of 114 kilometres hence its name. This route has become the most renowned since it is fairly easy and it is possible to complete it in only 5 stages, 5 days of walk. If you are unfamiliar with the Camino de Santiago this is the recommended option to start this adventure.
 

How many days do I need to do the French Way?

If you wish to walk the full Camino Frances on foot then you will need to complete 33 stages at least, this means that you will need to walk 33 days. The stages range from 20 to 30 kilometres but if you prefer at Galician Roots we can organize your Camino Frances tour and adapt it to the number of kilometres and days that you prefer. If you want to do the full Camino de Santiago Francés by bike this will require 14 stages ranging from 50 to 70 kilometres however we can adapt the route and the number of kilometres to your preferences.
 

How many stages does the French Way of Saint James have?

The Camino Frances has 31 official stages even though due to the length of some of them we would highly suggest doing between 33 and 36 stages to complete them comfortably as some of the official stages have more than 30 kilometres and we do not recommend exceeding this number of kilometres per day. We can customize the length of the stages depending on your physical condition so that your French Way organized tour is as comfortable as possible.
