El Camino de Fisterra y Muxía

Una senda para llegar hasta el fin de la tierra

After completing the Camino de Santiago many pilgrims decide to continue their itinerary towards Fisterra and Muxía. Even though this path seems to have a contemporary origin its history dates back to the Middle Ages when the ancient pilgrims believed that Fisterra was the last land on Earth: “the end of the world”. A great number of pilgrims came to gaze at the immensity of the Atlantic Ocean and its amazing sunset. At its inception this path was pagan but over time it has gone through a process of Christianization, it appears linked to the Saint James tradition on the Codex Calixtinus since the XII Century.
