The French Way

The route with the greatest tradition

The French Way is currently the most travelled and famous route of the Way of Saint James and the one with the longest tradition. It appeared in the Codex Calixtinus in the year 1135 and to this day it continues to concentrate the majority of pilgrims who decide to join this incredible adventure. Due to the considerable richness of this path, it was declared as a World Heritage Site in 1993 by the UNESCO.

The French Way crosses the entire Iberian Peninsula passing through symbolic and unique places such as Logroño, Burgos or León. The ample spectrum of landscapes and the wide offer of accommodations make it the perfect itinerary to introduce you to the Camino de Santiago. Sarria continues to be the preferred starting point for those pilgrims who want to begin their walk on the French Way as it represents the last 100 kilometres to Santiago and this itinerary can be done in only 7 days allowing you to apply for the Compostela certificate.
