The French Way tour or the Camino Frances tour is the most walked and demanded path of the Camino de Santiago. Where does the French Way of Saint James start?

The Camino de Santiago Frances departs from the French town of Saint Jean Pied de Port in France and ends in Santiago de Compostela. The French Way has a total length of 795 kilometres. It is possible to start the French Way tour from any point of the route but you can find many options we offer on this page so you can choose the tour that best suits you both in difficulty and the number of kilometres.

This tour starting from Sarria is also known as the last 100 kilometres of the Camino Frances, it can be done in barely 7 days and allows you to apply for the Compostela certificate. What are the last 100 kilometres of the Camino de Santiago?

As discussed above the last 100 kilometres of the Camino de Santiago is the most popular route and the most walked by pilgrims, this stretch belonging to the French Way of Saint James starts in Sarria and has an approximate length of 114 kilometres hence its name. This route has become the most renowned since it is fairly easy and it is possible to complete it in only 5 stages, 5 days of walk. If you are unfamiliar with the Camino de Santiago this is the recommended option to start this adventure.
 

How many days do I need to do the French Way?

If you wish to walk the full Camino Frances on foot then you will need to complete 33 stages at least, this means that you will need to walk 33 days. The stages range from 20 to 30 kilometres but if you prefer at Galician Roots we can organize your Camino Frances tour and adapt it to the number of kilometres and days that you prefer. If you want to do the full Camino de Santiago Francés by bike this will require 14 stages ranging from 50 to 70 kilometres however we can adapt the route and the number of kilometres to your preferences.
 

How many stages does the French Way of Saint James have?

The Camino Frances has 31 official stages even though due to the length of some of them we would highly suggest doing between 33 and 36 stages to complete them comfortably as some of the official stages have more than 30 kilometres and we do not recommend exceeding this number of kilometres per day. We can customize the length of the stages depending on your physical condition so that your French Way organized tour is as comfortable as possible.
 

What is the Portuguese Way tour?

The Camino de Santiago Portugues is the second most popular Jacobean route after the Camino de Santiago Frances. The Portuguese Way also known as the Portuguese Camino of the interior or central path starts in Lisbon and goes across Portugal towards Santiago de Compostela passing through beautiful places such as Santarém, Coímbra, Oporto and Pontevedra. Where does the Portuguese Way start?

The vast majority of the Portuguese Way is fairly flat and easy, only a few stages are difficult with some strong climbs. If you wish to complete an easy stretch with few slopes that would also allow you to apply for the Compostela certificate, then we recommend the Camino Portugues from Tui. This itinerary of the Portuguese Way will allow you to become familiar with this route, in only 5 days you can complete this stretch.

How many days are necessary to complete the Portuguese Way?

Depending on the starting point of your itinerary you will need more or fewer days so that you can have an idea if you wish to complete the Camino Portugues from Lisboa you would need 28 days taking into account the travelling time from your country. Keep in mind that you can start the Portuguese Way tour with Galician Roots from different points of the route.

How many stages does the Portuguese Way have?

To complete the full Portuguese Way from Lisboa on foot you would need 26 stages/days. Some stages have a significant length, between 20 and 33 kilometres, but do not worry at Galician Roots we can adapt to your preferences and we can shorten the stages so that you can complete your Camino Portugues tour as comfortably as possible.

What is the difference with the Coastal Portuguese Way (Camino Portugues por la costa)?

There is another route of the Portuguese Way called the Camino Portugues por la costa / Coastal Camino Portugues and as its name suggests this route goes along the coast of Portugal, it starts in Porto and merges with the Camino Portugues of the interior in Redondela. This variant passes by the Portuguese litoral through places such as Povoa de Varzim, Viana do Castelo and Baiona. This quiet itinerary is perfect if you want to walk by beaches and cliffs and it is the perfect match if you wish to complete an easy trail with low difficulty.
